A Flash AT The Pan

The Villages Freshwater Fishing Club (FFC) had 13 members fish Lake Panasoffkee on September 22. FFC Chairman Steve Felix schedules monthly trips t0 various locations. Reports prior to the trip from former FFC President Jerry Echols mentioned that the bluegils were biting. Trophy Catch Bass reports showed as many as 12 bass weighed in during the past year over 8 lbs. So what happened? Here’s Bill Gorman with 2 bass he caught. Hey Bill it’s better than not getting bit at all. Many times I’ve needed 1 of those in a tournament.

Felix went on to say there were “3 gar and a bunch of nice pan fish caught….and everyone thanked him for providing them with a good time.” They closed out the trip with lunch at Catfish Johnny’s that’s always a hit. Sign up with Steve Felix at next FFC meeting. You must be a member in good standing to participate.

Back to her home state of Oklahoma, Charlene Blackburn found time enough to throw a crankbait & score by catching this nice bass. WTG Charlene….and Okahoma is “OK”! They still have that on license plates?

Lake Griffin – Worm

On September 24, Don Millich & myself went to Lake Griffin. Arriving at the ALMOST FULL parking lot 20 minutes before sunrise, we launched anyway. You can check tournament schedules by clicking on the top of our website Meeting/Events & look under FL Bass Tournaments. “Most tournaments are posted”. This will give you an idea of where NOT to launch. Anyway Don & I continued out towards the lake. Once at our spot I proceeded to throw a topwater torpedo type bait while Don threw a worm. I’m still waiting to hook up with my topwater when Don sets the hook on a 2 lb worm fish.

Not to be out done from my back of the boat friend, I decided to tie on something new….and NO not a worm. The ol’ shaky head with a swimbait attached. If 70 y/o Rick Clunn can catch them at the St. John’s River, “I” ought to be able to catch them on Lake Griffin. A bass is a bass – I thought….. Hey Charlene, Oklahoma might be OK throwing crankbaits but Lake Griffin throwing a shaky head aint the ticket….at least on this trip as “The Donald” catches another bass but this time it’s a decent worm fish. As for me, I’d rather sit in Sister Mary Theresa’s 2nd grade class writing times tables than throw a worm….not that I ever got in trouble….too much. I wonder if they still do that?…. I guessed the bass at 5 lbs & Don said 4.12….I was right. I may get out fished but I say again – Who’s writing this anyway   🙂

I receive calls often from anglers asking what, where, when….they tell me that they can’t catch anything here in FL. Earlier I mentioned about the tournament web site….GO to a weigh-in….talk to the anglers….walk by their boats and see what they have tied on….watch them in action on the water. VISIT A LOCAL TACKLE SHOP. What you know about walleye, salmon, and trout won’t help you here. Be vigilant and LISTEN. Most will be happy to tell you what to use AFTER the final day of the tournament. I’ve pounced on this many times that the next cast in ANY of The Village ponds could be a Trophy Catch….and yes I’ve heard rumors over the years of Village giants being caught but come on gang….pictures & scales will make you famous. We don’t need to know your exact location. When all else fails ask any of us at the FFC meetings or better yet….hire a guide. They’re posted on our web site under Guides/Tackle/More.

Our October 11, 2016 FFC meeting will feature representatives from Trophy Catch & FWC Law Enforcement or as many of us know them as the Game Warden. Oh I’ll be there….I might be a little preoccupied though busily mathmuhtyzin….2 x ? = 24 ….3 x 8 = ?
