NOTE – Due to circumstances beyond our control, Apr 12 FFC monthly meeting will be at Laurel Manor Rec Center….sorry for the inconvenience
While many WAIT to target bedding fish during the spawn, in some places it might be over. Recent catches by anglers in central FLA have indicated that the big girls may have spawned out & look lean & mean….at least from the reports received. Rick Cope, pictured below, scored on catching this nice fish pitching a creature bait near heavy cover. Cope said, “this fish had spawned out & you could tell it was time for her to eat”.
Mike Chandler (L) caught this bass dragging a worm, pictured below, ever so slowly while fishing a club tournament at Lake Rousseau. 17 anglers participated with 53 bass caught. 1st place was Milt Shuffield 5/14.38 lbs, 2nd was Mike Chandler with 5/11.81 lbs that included Big Bass of 6.21, 3rd was Tom Sarver with 4/10.21…..Not sure what Sarver used but 1st & 2nd proved that slow moving plastics were the answer.
Also worth noting – release of water from full Lake Okeechobee has been stopped….oxygen depleted chemical run off from sugar cane farms along with whatever else has caused a major fish kill in the out flowing areas in Brevard County….specifically the Indian River. Estimates say that local volunteers have picked up 20k dead fish. It seems to be a damned if you do or don’t situation. We can only hope that the strong will survive. Government officials are investigating….YEAH….I feel a lot better now…..NOT
