Rodman Drawdown – It’s Happening Now

Every 3-4 years the drawdown of Rodman Reservoir occurs. The reason for this is to control aquatic growth & enhance fish habitat. FWC officials have reminded us that during the drawdown that largemouth bass must be released. Keep in mind the terminology “Shooting fish in a barrel.” With the levels dropping as much as 7 ft fish will congregate in pools.

Please be aware of other anglers and it goes without saying that safety is paramount during this time period. See announcement FWC. <—- Click on FWC.

Local bass fishing is reportedly still slow….depends on what & where you’re reading & fishing. Tournament director Bill Genes said Oct 29th that Lake Rousseau results had Bud Hendry winning with 5 fish that weighed 11.48 lbs. Hendry also had Big Bass that tipped the scales at 6.32. Do the math & you’ll see how HUGE Hendry’s remaining fish weren’t.

Wednesday Nov 4th nine anglers from another small club fished Griffin and 1st place was 4 fish that weighed 9.9 lbs. Because this wasn’t a sanctioned tournament, records were not kept so I was unable to provide numbers & total weight.

Force Fed With A Worm

Last Saturday I got out of the house & caught 3 legal squeakers force feeding them pitching a worm. I tried to get 5 for a limit just to have a picture. I’m STILL trying.

Captain Grady Maynard will be at our next meeting on Nov 10. Listen to Captain Grady discuss bass tactics throughout the area. Also we’ll hear from Robert Cain on crappie fishing. Hmmm – may have to look no farther than a few lines above. Seems Jerry Echols has been doing just fine.

Club shirts & hats will be at Blew Lite Special prices at the meeting. Our own VP Randy DiSanto will elaborate on these latest greatest fashion design. He may even model.

Bill Brooker from Brooker Bait & Tackle in Leesburg will make a special announcement for our members. Brooker also will highlight his store wide sale & BBQ that occurs on Dec 5. Always a huge hit with the anglers.

Steve Felix has scheduled another trip to Panasoffkee. Sign up at our Nov 10th meeting with Steve. We also go to lunch afterwards at Catfish Johnny’s.

Please remember Toys 4 Tots (new unwrapped gift) and to stay informed with what’s going on in the area scroll down right side & insert your email address.

Where are these Crappie, Jerry ? My wife has been after me to go Crappie fishing and I would like to know where and when is the time?? Very nice!! Don Kindilien

    • Don, Steve Henderson and my kayak fishing bud from Kentucky, Bruce Gover, and even I catch a Crappie now and then fishing for Bass in Lake Griffin. I think Gary Towers does, too. And, they are usually big-uns. We catch them on lipless crank baits. I even bought an electric fillet knife in anticipation of catching a couple next outing. We don’t always catch them, but I’ll say this: I’m not throwing the first one back in in the future. But, for best success get out the cane poles and tip jigs with a small minnow and drift around the lake…or ask Jerry Echols…who is a real Crappie fisherman…or hire John Peyton for half a day and be certain. John’s contact info is on the website.
