Small – Medium – GINORMOUS

Central FL tournament director, Bill Genes, sent me March 24th results from Lake Rousseau that were somewhat uplifting. Bill said he had 15 anglers, 44 fish caught, 1st place was Bill Ranglett with 5 that weighed 12.61 lbs. Ranglett also had Big Bass that weighed 3.83 lbs. 6 anglers had 5 fish limits….4 anglers blanked….Worth mentioning is that Phil McNeal actually got into the money for catching 5 bass & coming in 2nd place with a weight of 9.41 lbs….After hearing this I’m now a firm believer in a higher power because it had to be DIVINE INTERVENTION that helped him. All kidding aside you were long over due.

2nd Place Phil McNeal

On March 28th I was on Griffin trying to avoid the Fishers of Men anglers, 140 boats, that were competing in their National Tournament on the Harris Chain. There were many that locked through to Griffin. Giving them a wide birth & avoiding areas altogether I proceeded to drag a black lizard with a blue tail through any “off shore” vegetation that showed up on my Humminbird. This is no way considered “power fishing” like KVD & is about as much fun “to me” as furniture shopping with my wife….BUT the results can be rewarding. Earlier in the week my best 5 weighed 7.74 lbs. These 2 pictured below were 4.85 & 4.14….

Only caught 1 other waiver fish but I wasn’t fishing a tournament so was “sorta” content…. Waiver fish range from 12-14 inches & are legal to bring to the scales during a sanctioned tournament.

Ever heard of Kenansville???? Me either – but here’s a photo that my neighbor Stan Lippian sent me last week while he & a friend were there. Stan says they caught about 50 bass that day with many like this. This angler is using one of my favorite baits too.

The old saying about “saving the best till last” ….well this angler should need no introduction…. He’s been featured in Bassmaster Magazine & highlited many times in local periodicals….Also has spoken to the membership of the Freshwater Fishing Club in The Villages….Wayne Barksdale celebrated his 78th birthday with a couple ginormous bass. Wayne said a jig & a 10.5″ worm coaxed these behemoths. Happy Birthday Wayne!!!

And to sweeten the pot he comes back with this second fish… over 10 lbs…lets face it….BOTH are truly fish of a lifetime. Congratulations Wayne.

Both of Wayne Barksdale’s bass came from a central FL chain. Although these are HUGE fish, don’t kid yourself that it’s possible to hang into something like this in almost any body of water in Florida. You may be fishing your back yard retention pond or a lake & hang into something like what Barksdale caught….or larger…. To date there’s a 15.11 lb giant leading in Trophy Catch. You read it right. I can only imagine.

Get Well Soon Wishes:

Angler Milt Shuffield had quad bi-pass heart surgery 2 weeks ago. He’s been a regular in central FL competing in numerous events….I hear he’s on the mend….See you on the water soon buddy!!
