Shuf Tames The Tuff Tsala Apopka Chain

Veterans Day 15 anglers, including me,  fished the Tsala Apopka Chain near Inverness with hopes of capturing fame & fortune….okay how about bragging rights at least.

The day started clear & cool with air temp a balmy 49. My plan was….what plan….I haven’t done diddly squat lately so I grabbed a toad & went to the pads. Water temp 68….no baitfish moving anywhere….After what seemed like eternity without a hit & changing locations several times I’m thinking that maybe I should take up bowling…. I grabbed a white & chartreuse spinnerbait & started a slow erratic retrieve along weed edges in depths of 5-8’….I caught 2 squeaker keepers almost immediately and had several more short strikes….junebug trickworm was next with hopes of sticking something. Yep it worked too….I went thru 6-8 dinks before I got 2 more waiver keepers….only needed 1 more to complete a limit….HUH not today.

Big Bass 3.44 lbs

At weigh-in it’s a mixed bag of squeakers & keepers….4 anglers brought in 5 fish limits….4  anglers blanked….total fish caught 38….1st place Milt Shuffield with 5 fish going 9.64….Big Bass Don Millich 3.44….honorable mention for Big Bass was Foy Underwood’s fish that weighed 3.42…. UGH….Shuffield caught his fish within 90 minutes after launch on a spinnerbait….Millich caught his Big Bass on a worm but came up 2 short of a limit.

And after looking at the cost of a bowling ball, bag, shoes, & shirt….gotta look the part….I figure I could buy a G Loomis Rod, Abu Garcia MGX reel, & hundreds of Zoom Horny Toads. Soooo those on the PBA Tour….you’re safe….I’ll stick to water.
