Officer Tom Kist of FWC Speaks to The Villages Freshwater Fishing Club

Program Director, Steve Henderson, invited Officer Tom Kist of the FWC to address The Villages Freshwater Fishing Club for the last time as an employee of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He is retiring soon.  His appearances have always been informative and entertaining.  We wish him a long and satisfying retirement.  Here is a short video of his comments about transferring Bass from other lakes to The Villages retention ponds.

The complete email response to Steve Henderson following the meeting is as follows:

FYI:

At last Tuesdays Freshwater Fishing Club meeting a gentleman made a statement that it was “against the law” to transfer largemouth bass from 1 body of water to another. Allegedly he was informed by a fishery biologist.

Hello Steve,

I was correct but I checked anyways.  You may transfer fish from one body of water to another as long as your within your bag limits and slot limits.  Transferring a 10 inch bass from Lake Griffin to a pond in the Villages would be a violation due to possession of an undersized bass.  If you could pass that information to your constituents I would appreciate it.  Also tell them a biologist cannot write citations.    Thank you.
